FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Do I need top soil?

A: In short, it's optional; however, top soil certainly helps, as a thoroughly tilled and prepped property will provide the best conditions for germination. Visit our Prep & After-Care page to learn more about proper site preparation and maintenance!

Q: How long until I see grass?

A: Growth time depends on the type of species of grass seed you have sprayed (rye grass is the quickest to germinate). It is also dictated by the amount of water it receives, which can help with growth.

Q: How often do I water it?

A: We recommend that you water daily for first 10 days in dry weather (enough to dampen, but not saturate). Refer to our Prep & After-Care page to learn more about caring for your freshly-treated property.

Q: Can I walk on it?

A: For best results, eliminate traffic until your second cutting.

Q: When do I cut it?

A: When your freshly grown grass reaches 6 inches in height, cut it down to 2 inches.

Q: Hydroseed vs SOD price-wise?

A: Current average SOD pricing (not including labour) is 5x times the price of hydroseeding. Sod requires large quantities of grass grown in rolls, leading to a substantial upfront expense. Furthermore, hydroseeding eliminates the need for expensive labour involved in laying and installing sod, as the mixture is simply sprayed onto the desired area. The application process of hydroseeding is also far more efficient, covering larger areas with minimal effort compared to the manual placement of sod rolls, hence the reduction in labour costs. Learn more about the benefits of our hydroseeding verses sod-laying or hand-dispersing seed on our Hydroseeding page.

Q: Pets?

A: It is recommended that you keep your pets off the treated lawn/property for 48 hours.

Q: Warranty and Wash Outs?

A: Our warranty covers germination with proper watering and care. We cannot cover wash-outs due to the unpredictability of Mother Nature.

Q: Best months for hydroseeding?

A: While there is some variance to be anticipated with unpredictable weather cycles and seasons, the late summer and early fall months (Sept-Nov) are typically ideal times of the year to hydroseed.

Q: Can you spray over existing lawn?

A: We do not recommend hydroseeding over your existing lawn or turf. Your best chance of successful seeding is starting from scratch with a complete redo of your property. Visit our Prep & After-Care page to learn more about proper site preparation for hydroseed slurry application.

Q: What's with the turquoise/green spray colour?

In the hydroseeding mixture of seed, fertilizer, water, and mulch, the mulch is coloured with a natural and biodegradable green dye - this helps us to see where the mixture has been applied, and gives you a sense of how lush your property will look once growth begins!
